Biomechanical Evaluation of Anterior Cervical Spine Fixation Devices

چکیده
The anterior cervical plate fixation systems have been widely used in treatment of complex spinal disorders such as traumatic lesion, disc hernination, tumor, spondylosis, arthritides, and others. Combined with bone graft or other fusion techniques the satisfactory outcomes were higher than 88% (Clements 1990, Naito 1993,Bose 1998, Schneeberger 1999). Among the screw plate fixation systems, Caspar plating and AO titanium locking plate system are markedly popular by many surgeons. The Caspar anterior plate system has been proven to yield solid construct, and to obviate the need for simultaneous posterior stabilization( Tippets, 1988; Garvey, 1992; 1993;Naito, 1993;Bose, 1998). AO anterior cervical locking plate is recommended for situation where traditional technique might be unsatisfactory; such as multilevel anterior spine defects, post-traumatic cervical kyphosis, and cervical fractures with posterior disruption require anterior fusion. It is considered to be safer and effective, due to the system does not gait purchase on the posterior cortex (Suh, 1990; Kostuik, 1993, Tominaga, 1994).

Delayed Esophageal Pseudodiverticulum after Anterior Cervical Spine Fixation: Report of 2 Cases
Introduction: Although perforation of the esophagus, in the anterior cervical spine fixation, is well established, cases with delayed onset, especially cases that present pseudodiverticulum, are not common. In addition, management of the perforation in this situation is debated. Case Report: Delayed esophageal pseudodiverticulum was managed in two patients with a history of anterior spine fi...
متن کاملIn vitro biomechanical evaluation of four fixation techniques for distractive–flexion injury stage 3 of the cervical spine
PURPOSE Anterior plate fixation has been reported to provide satisfactory results in cervical spine distractive flexion (DF) injuries stages 1 and 2, but will result in a substantial failure rate in more unstable stage 3 and above. The aim of this investigation was to determine the biomechanical properties of different fixation techniques in a DF-3 injury model where all structures responsible ...
متن کاملA Novel Anterior Transpedicular Screw Artificial Vertebral Body System for Lower Cervical Spine Fixation: A Finite Element Study.
A finite element model was used to compare the biomechanical properties of a novel anterior transpedicular screw artificial vertebral body system (AVBS) with a conventional anterior screw plate system (ASPS) for fixation in the lower cervical spine. A model of the intact cervical spine (C3-C7) was established. AVBS or ASPS constructs were implanted between C4 and C6. The models were loaded in t...
متن کاملBiomechanical study of a novel self-locking plate system for anterior cervical fixation
BACKGROUND Anterior cervical plate had developed continuously, and this study aimed to assess the biomechanics of a novel self-locking plate system for anterior cervical fixation designed by ourselves. METHODS Twelve anterior cervical plates (i.e., six novel plates and six DePuy plates) were subjected to a pull-out test and a fatigue test. In addition, 12 C1-T1 cervical spine specimens underw...
متن کاملDo stand-alone interbody spacers with integrated screws provide adequate segmental stability for multilevel cervical arthrodesis?
BACKGROUND CONTEXT Some postoperative complications after anterior cervical fusions have been attributed to anterior cervical plate (ACP) profiles and the necessary wide operative exposure for their insertion. Consequently, low-profile stand-alone interbody spacers with integrated screws (SIS) have been developed. Although SIS constructs have demonstrated similar biomechanical stability to the ...
